SUBJECT: Commendation
TO: Commanding Officer, 419th Field Artillery Battalion.
A liaison officer from the 419th Field Artillery Battalion checked in at the Command Post of Task Force "LUCKETT" on 18 December 1944. Lieutenant Goodspeed remained as liaison and stayed with Task Force "LUCKETT" until 21 December 1944. During this period, the 419th Field Artillery Battalion aided materially in stopping the enemy advance by providing "On Call Fires" twenty-four (24) hours each day and also providing routine interdiction.
On several occasions, accurately delivered "On Call Fires" which were successful in breaking up activity of enemy groups of infantry and and vehicles. During a fluid situation, in which their forward battery positions were in considerable danger of actual enemy contact, the 419th Field Artillery Battalion was of great value in stopping the enemy's attempt to push up the valley toward BREITWEILER.
